Concept introduction:
The molecules which are composed of only two elements are known as binary molecular compounds.
Nomenclature of binary compounds:
- Except hydrogen, the other elements have to be given in order of increasing group number.
- The first element is given its name and the second is given its root followed by “ide”.
- The prefix such as di, tri, tetra are used in-order to indicate the number of atoms of a given type. The exception is that there will be no prefix given if the first atom is mono.
