Introduction

It is possible to live in a totally separate culture, since many Amish communities continue to maintain their culture in modern America. They do interact on occasion and allow teenagers to live in the dominant culture for a year to decide if they want to stay in the Amish community or not. The Amish reject most technology and so are not influenced by pop culture that requires electricity to access.
