To determine: The well designed aspects, limitations of the given study and how would be improve the design of the study to address these limitations of the given study.
Introduction:
For a scientist, a controlled experiment is necessary component of a well designed study. In the given study: People having acne use this cream.
Acne or pimple found in the skin when oil-producing hair follicles or pores have been clogged. Propionibacterium acne is an acne producing bacterium that gets trapped in the follicle of the skin. When these follicles get ruptured and inflammation occurs in the form of pimples at the site which are WBCs of immune system.

- Summarise the passage to 150 words ANIMAL doctors? Why, that may sound like something out of a child’s storybook. Yet it is a fact that many animals are quite successful when it comes to treating their ailments. And they do this in ways that frequently prove to be more effective than those used by man. Yes, animals have been endowed with an instinctive ability to treat themselves when they have certain afflictions.Archibald Rutledge, a writer and naturalist, recalls that when he was a plantation boy he kept many wild animals as pets, one of them being a little white-tailed deer. One day he found that his pet had torn a nasty gash in its side on a barbed-wire fence. To help heal the wound, he cleansed it and carefully bandaged it.However, the deer seemed to know better what to do about this than did its human friend. The fawn pulled the bandage off, carefully licked the hair away from the injured area and then exposed it fully to the fresh air and sunlight. What happened? In a short…arrow_forwardThink of a common saying, perhaps something your family used to say to you, that is health-related (like you must not swim for 30 minutes after you eat, or you’ll get a stomach ache, or if you go outside with wet hair, you’ll catch a cold). What information you would need to have in order to support or refute these claims. For example, what questions would you need to investigate?arrow_forwardBotox is a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. When ingested with tainted food, Botox can kill by paralyzing muscles needed for breathing and heartbeat. Physicians inject small quantities of diluted Botox into facial muscles to paralyze them and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Some people have expressed concern about a trend in which people come together for “Botox parties” at hair salons and other nonmedical settings. What are the risks of getting injections in such a setting?arrow_forward
- Which of the following statements is a good, scientific hypothesis A. If you eat a turnip every week, it will boost your immune systems. B. Consistent intake of raw turnips boosts the human immune system due to the vitamins present in uncooked turnips. C. Frozen turnips do not boost your immune system too much. D. If you eat a cooked turnip today, it will not boost your immune systemarrow_forwardPeople who eat lots of fruits and vegetables have lower rates of colon cancer than those who eat little of these foods. Fruits and vegetables are rich in “antioxidants” such as vitamins A, C, and E. Will taking antioxidants help prevent colon cancer? A medical experiment studied this question with 864 people who were at risk of colon cancer. The subjects were divided into four groups: daily beta-carotene, daily vitamins C and E, all three vitamins every day, or daily placebo. After four years, the researchers were surprised to find no significant difference in colon cancer among the groups. Explain what sampling method and experimental design you would use to conduct such research. What do you think “no significant difference” means in describing the outcome of the study? Suggest some lurking variables that could explain why people who eat lots of fruits and vegetables have lower rates of colon cancer. (The experiment suggests that these variables, rather than the antioxidants, may be…arrow_forwardUse logic to deduce the answer to this question. Given what you know about skin color and skin cancer, the highest rate of skin cancer on Earth occurs among (a) blacks in tropical Africa, (b) scientists in research stations in Antarctica, (c) whites in northern Australia, (d) Norwegians in the United States, (e) blacks in the United States.arrow_forward
- In your own words, Explain the difference between Dressing an Bandage and how it helps the injured person.arrow_forwardThe medical imaging technology magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is used in hospitals and radiology clinics. MRI creates detailed images of the organs and tissues within the body using a powerful magnetic field and radio waves. 1)Even when the MRI machine is not in use, MRI system operators make sure not to bring any metallic objects into the room where the machine is housed. Why? And what happens if a magnet is heated?Elaborate your answerarrow_forwardPLEASE NOTE THIS IS A GROUPING OF ONE TOTAL QUESTION NOT INDIVIDUAL QUESTIONS AS A PREVIOUS TUTOR WOULD ONLY ANSWER ONE AND NOT THE GROUPING. B) What is one important function of melanin? A. Resets the diurnal biological clock B. Increases the amount of blood vessels C. Causes the skin to become cooler D. Absorbs harmful radiation E. Strengthens the skin or eyes C) Most of the cells of the epidermis are ________________. A. fibroblasts B. keratinocytes C. macrophages D. Langerhans cells D) The epidermis is nourished by diffusion from capillaries in the ___________. A. papillary layer of the dermis B. hypodermis C. epidermis D. reticular layer of the dermis E) Cell division occurs in which layer of the epidermis? A. Stratum lucidum B. Stratum corneum C. Stratum basale D. Stratum granulosum F) Which of the following is NOT a component of the epidermis thin skin? A.…arrow_forward
- A patient comes to your clinic reporting knee pain when running. You ask questions about when it hurts and when it doesn’t. She tells you that it hurts when she runs on flat ground, but feels fine when she’s running up a hill. You observe her running on a local hill and note that her arms swing more forcefully, leans forward, and takes faster, shorter steps. You hypothesize that when she runs up hill, she uses her hip muscles more (glutes!) which decreases her knee pain. A) How would you explain the change in her gait from flat ground to the hill with generalized motor program theory? Is it a different motor program, or how could you tell if it is? What would be the invariant feature and parameter?arrow_forwardcomprehension) A scientist hypothesized that her vaccine would stimulate the immune system to attack melanoma (skin cancer) tumors and reduce their growth. To test the hypothesis, 100 melanoma patients were injected with the vaccine in a saline solution (Group A) and 100 melanoma patients were injected with only the saline solutionarrow_forwardWhat is the primary purpose of applying heat therapy to a patient's inflamed joint? a) To reduce blood flow to the area b) To promote vasodilation and increase blood flow c) To numb the area and reduce pain perception d) To inhibit bacterial growtharrow_forward
