To determine:
The reason as to why antibiotics can be purchased without a prescription in some developing countries.
Introduction:
Antibiotics are the drugs that inhibit the growth of bacteria by interfering with their natural mechanism of the central dogma. The process of replication, transcription, and translation are altogether referred as the central dogma of life. Antibiotic drugs interfere with these processes of bacteria and inhibit their growth.
To determine:
Biological consequences that could result if people continue to purchase antibiotics without a prescription.
Introduction:
Antibiotic resistance is a phenomenon which could result in making a microbe resistant to the effects of a certain medication. Antibiotic resistance can lead to untreatable pathogens.

- Do you think the United States can accomplish changes in how antibiotics are used in animal agriculture like those seen in Denmark? Why or why not? What are the main barriers to minimizing or ending antibiotic misuse in animal agriculture in the United States? How could these barriers be addressed?arrow_forwardWhich mechanism of antibiotic resistance is most likely to result in "cross resistance" against multiple antibiotic drugs resulting in the development of "superbugs"? a. Modification of drug target b. Enzyme deactivation of drug c. Efflux pumps d. Blocking entry of drug into the cellarrow_forwardWhich of the following best describes the mechanism of action of the antibiotic streptomycin? A. it disrupts protein synthesis in resistant bacteria. B. Streptomycin inhibits cell wall synthesis in all bacterial species. C. Streptomycin creates mutations in bacteria which cause them to become resistant. D. It disrupts protein synthesis in nonresistant bacteria.arrow_forward
- You will have the opportunity to explore the effectiveness of six different antibacterial substances against a certain species of bacteria. You will follow scientific procedures by questioning, forming a hypothesis, setting up and conducting an experiment, analyzing results, and forming a conclusion. You will determine the comparative effectiveness of six antibiotics. What is the dependent variable? What is the independent variable?arrow_forwardDescribe one scenario in which antibiotic resistant bacteria in a chicken could enter your body.arrow_forwardWhy is overuse of antibiotics resulting in more antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria to evolve? A) The normal flora of the patient can no longer to outcompete the pathogen B) The antibiotics create the mutations that result in resistant organisms C) The antibiotic becomes less potent over time leading to resistance D) The patients begin to have less side-effects from the antibiotics E) The antibiotics provide the selective pressure for resistancearrow_forward
- The term "Superbug" refers to? A. Certain bacteria strain that can grow in all kinds of unfavorable conditiions B. Certain bacteria strain is more toxic than all the viruses C. Certain bacteria strain that is resistant to all available antibiotics D. Certain bacteria strain that grows faster than any other strainsarrow_forwardWhy do you think there could be antibiotic resistant organisms before 1942 since bacteria need to "see" the antibiotic before it can become resistant?arrow_forwardWhy antibiotic resistant is a threat to the world?arrow_forward
- Why do bacteria that are not genetically resistant to antibiotics die out when exposed to antibiotics?arrow_forwardThe use of microorganisms to decrease pollutants in the environment is most accurately referred to as: A.-transgenics B.-bioremediation C.-bacteriomics D.-phytoremediation E.-genetic engineeringarrow_forwardWhere do true antibiotics come from in nature? Explain why this is the case.arrow_forward
