Genetic diseases are due to mutation in the DNA that results from exposure to harmful radiation. Such ultraviolet radiation inhibits the natural gene expression mechanism and thus inhibits the normal growth in the individual. The major components that cause lesion in DNA are pyrimidine dimers that must be repaired.
