Interpretation: The structures of the branched-chain amino acids (BCCAs) among the common amino acids, given in Table 20.2 are to be drawn.
Concept introduction: Amino acid supplements are those supplements which contain branched-chain amino acids (BCCAs). These have been studied for athletic performance and mental fatigue. These are used to slow muscle wasting in bedridden patient. BCCAs are the amino acids which have hydrocarbon side chain with a branch. In this branch a carbon atom is bounded to more than two carbon atoms.
To determine: The structures of the branched-chain amino acids (BCCAs) among the common amino acids, given in Table 20.2.
