Introduction:

A virus that infects a bacterium is called as a bacteriophage. They resemble viruses in case of structure, mode of reproduction, and genetic material. Like viruses, they have either DNA or RNA as the genetic material and can follow the lytic or lysogenic mode of reproduction. They infect and release out by bursting the host cell (lytic phage) or remain and multiply inside the host cell without destroying them (lysogenic phage).
