Explanation of Solution

Introduction:

The uncharged conductive materials can be electrically charged without essentially touching that material to any other charged body. This method of charging an uncharged conductive material is called induction method of charging. In this method, uncharged conductive material is connected to a ground and a charged body will be held nearer to it. Then there will be a flow of charge between the two bodies and uncharged conductive material is developed with a charge with opposite polarity in it.

An electroscope is charged by induction. If the charging rod is moved away, before removing the ground from the knob, then the charges (that transferred from the electroscope into the ground) will flow back to the electroscope from the ground. Hence the electroscope remains neutral.
