To Discuss: The changes occurred when beta particles pass through a Geiger counter.
Answer to Problem 14R
The current is produced when beta particles are passed through Geiger counter.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
A Geiger counter contains
- A tube having positively charged wire
- A low-density gas filled in this tube.
The electrons are ejected when radiations of beta particles are entered in the tube of Geiger counter. These electrons further eject more electrons. So, a number of electrons are produced in the form of beam.
These electrons are attracted by positively charge end of Geiger count. Hence, flow of charges takes place which produces current.
Conclusion:
Thus, when beta particles pass through a Geiger counter, current is produced.
