Chapter 21, Problem 1TOF
Summary Introduction
To Determine:
If the given statement is true or false.
Introduction:
The heart is the blood-pumping organ in most animals. The function of this organ is to pump blood throughout the body via the blood vessels. Further, blood provides nutrients and oxygen to all the other organs of the body by the diffusion process. Moreover, it also carries back the waste material from the organs to the kidney and lungs.

for its oxygen then it may die, forming
rct. The severity of this condition depends on the precise location of the occlusion, which
downstream tissues are involved, and how large an area of tissue dies.
Use Figure 4.9 as a reference and list the flow of blood through both circuits in order, beginnng
with the right atrium (don't forget to include the heart valves).
1. If an embolus breaks off in a systemic vein in the leg, it would be able to pass through:
It would occlude:
2.
If an embolus formed in the left ventricle, it would be able to pass through:
3.
It would occlude:

The function of the respiratory system is closely tied to its structure and organization. choose one component of the respiratory system and discuss how it's structure helps it to carry out it's function following the instructions below:
Choose one disorder that affects the structure you discussed. Make sure to address the cause of the disorder, signs and symptoms the patient is experiencing, how it is eventually diagnosed, and finally treatment.
Extend the discussion further by considering how the different disorders affect other systems in the body, as well as the respiratory tract.
Identify and discuss the blood supply to and from the lungs.

She is now 85 years old and has suffered gradual changes to her rib cage: there has been calcification and reduced motility of the rib articulations. She finds herself short of breath when trying to perform actions that previously caused her no difficulty. Consider Xena’s blood pressure of 105/66 mmHg. This can be applied to any section of the respiratory tract. - Pulmonary arterioles respond to different factors than systemic arterioles because in the lungs, the blood supply is receiving oxygen and delivering carbon dioxide, while in the systemic circulation, it is delivering oxygen, and receiving carbon dioxide. In the pulmonary circuit, arterioles will dilate in well-ventilated areas of the lungs to increase the rate of exchange between capillaries and well-ventilated alveoli. However, in poorly ventilated areas of the lungs, arterioles will constrict in order to re-route blood to well-ventilated areas. Now consider our case of pulmonary oedema, and how that will impact circulation in the pulmonary circuit. (Select two answers).
