An anastomosis in the circulatory system is the connection between two blood vessels, such as between veins (veno-venous anastomosis), between arteries (arterio-arterial anastomosis), and between a vein and an artery (arterio-venous anastomosis). The purpose of anastomosis is to provide alternate route for the blood supply to different organs of the body.
