Interpretation: The energy difference between the levels involved in the emission of photon from the excited atom at given wavelength should be determined.
Concept Introduction:
Energy: The energy is conversed property since it can neither be created nor be destroyed but can be transformed. The energy of the photon is obtained by using the following relation
Wavelength: The distance between the two continuous maximum displacements present in wave or the two continuous minimum displacements present in a wave exhibited by the photons is called wavelength. The wavelength of the photon is inversely proportional to its frequency. The relationship between them is given by the following formula,
Frequency: It denotes the number of waves passes in given amount of time.
To determine: The energy difference involved in the emission of photon from excited oxygen atom.

- What is the biological importance of stratospheric ozone? Explain.arrow_forwardHow many collisions does a single Ar atom make in 1.0 s when the temperature is 25oC and the pressure is 1.0 atm.?arrow_forwardThe estimated average concentration of NO2 in the air in the United States in 2006 was 0.016 ppm. (a) Calculate the the partial pressure of the NO2 in a sample of this air when the atmospheric pressure is 755 torr (99.1 kPa).arrow_forward

- Silicon forms a series of compounds analogous to the al-kanes and having the general formula SinH2n+2. The first of these compounds is silane, SiH4, which is used in the electronics industry to produce thin ultrapure silicon films. SiH4(g) is somewhat difficult to work with because it is py-ropboric at room temperature—meaning that it bursts into flame spontaneously when exposed to air. (a) Write an equation for the combustion of SiH4(g). (The reaction is analogous to hydrocarbon combustion, and SiO2 is a solid under standard conditions. Assume the water produced will be a gas.) (b) Use the data from Appendix E to calculate ? for this reaction. (c) Calculate G and show that the reaction is spontaneous at 25°C. (d) Compare G for this reaction to the combustion of methane. (See the previous problem.) Are the reactions in these two exercises enthalpy or entropy driven? Explain.arrow_forwardWhat is the composition of photochemical smog?arrow_forward
