Interpretation: The advantages of a fuel cell over a lead storage battery need to be explained.
Concept Introduction: A fuel cell is an
Explanation of Solution
Fuel cells are designated to overcome the disadvantages of lead storage batteries. Fuel cells have renewable electrodes as fuel substances undergo oxidation as a result of which electrical energy is obtained. There is no need to recharge a fuel cell. Also, no air pollutants are emitted by fuel cells. There is also no noise at the time of use, it is considered a cost-effective method to generate electricity. A simple fuel cell involves the reaction of hydrogen and oxygen gas thus, the only product formed in the reaction is liquid water.
Therefore, the advantages of a fuel cell over a lead-storage battery are:
- No need of recharging.
- No air pollutants are emitted.
- No noise pollution.
- Cost-effective method to generate electricity.
