Chapter 21.10, Problem 4MC
Summary Introduction
To determine:
The contrasting feature between the body coverings of fishes, amphibians, non-avian reptiles and birds and mammals.
Concept introduction:
Fishes, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals all are included under the group chordates. The characteristic feature of this group is the presence of a notochord, a dorsal hollow nerve cord, pharyngeal slits, and a post anal tail. All these animals are protostomes, in which anus develops from first opening in the embryo at gastrulation. All have different body coverings, which provide protection to the body.
