Summary Introduction
The genus Bacteroides includes Gram-negative, obligate anaerobic bacteria. Most of the species classified under this genus have been reassigned to other genera. For example, Porphyromonas. These bacteria are abundantly seen in the human feces. In contrast, they are present in a very low number in the animal feces.
