Ergot alkaloids are the mycotoxins that are produced by several strains of the genus Claviceps. There are 4 groups of ergot alkaloids- the lysergic acid, the clavins, the ergopeptide, and the lysergic acid amide. These ergot alkaloids cause hallucination, and the feeling of loss of hands and feet, burning skin, gangrene and even death.
