Explanation of Solution

Introduction:

Acids and bases are substances which give ions in the aqueous solution. Acid gives hydrogen ions in the solution, whereas base gives hydroxide ions in the solution.

The comparison is done as follows:

    AcidBase
The species which gives hydrogen ion/s in the aqueous solution. The species which gives hydroxide ion/s in the aqueous solution.
They are sour in taste. They are bitter in taste.
Acids turn blue litmus paper red and there is no change in the red litmus paper. Bases turn read litmus paper blue and there is no change in the blue litmus paper.
The pH value for an acidic solution is less than 7. The pH value for a basic solution is more than 7.
Examples of acids known from everyday life are acetic acid (vinegar), HCl (also known as stomach acid) etc. Examples of bases used in everything life are caustic soda NaOH, KOH etc.

Conclusion:

Thus, both acids and bases dissociate to give ions in the aqueous solution. Therefore, both are good conductor of heat and electricity. The strength of an acid or base depend on the amount of hydrogen and hydroxide ions produced, respectively.

Strong acids or bases act as strong electrolytes and weak acid, or bases are weak electrolytes because large number of ions are result from the dissociation of strong acid or base with respect to weak acid or base solution.
