Concept Introduction:
▸ Conformation of a molecule is the spatial arrangement of its atoms through free rotation around the single bonds. The single spatial arrangement obtained, as a result of such rotation is referred to as conformational form or structure of that molecule.
▸ The conformations are interconvertible structures. The conformational structures of a compound may be represented as open chain, sawhorse, chair form or Newman’s projections.
