Concept introduction:

${\text{CO and CN}}^{\text{-}}$ are good ligand for co-ordination compounds. Because of lone pair on carbon atom. They easily combine with iron atom present in hemoglobin and replace the oxygen. Due to this decrease ${\text{O}}_{\text{2}}$ content in blood and effect of the metabolic rate vary rapidly and cause to death.
