Concept Introduction:
Leigh syndrome also called Leigh disease is an inherited neurometabolic disorder that affects the central nervous system. The symptoms of Leigh syndrome are found mainly in infants and leads to death within a span of several years. Infants with leigh syndrome have symptoms that include diarrhea and vomiting. Children with Leigh disease also have seizures. Excess lactate is observed in the urine, cerebrospinal fluid, and blood of a person with Leigh syndrome.
