To discuss:
The actions of the sternum and the rib cage during a respiratory cycle.
Introduction:
Respiratory cycle is the process of breathing in and out. Breathing in, is called as inhalation where the lungs expand during air intake. Breathing out is also called as exhalation when air moves out of the lungs and it deflates. One respiratory cycle equals both inhalation and exhalation. Breathing involves the bones and muscles in the chest region. The ribs are found in the thorax. These are long and curved bones that form the rib cage. The sternum is located in the center of the chest and is a long flat bone. It looks similar to a necktie and connects the ribs via cartilage that forms the front side of the rib cage.
