Chapter 22.4, Problem 1RC
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The given DNA sample contains about 27.4% A and about 22.6%  C. The probable percentage of G and T in its DNA has to be determined and explained.

Concept introduction:

Nucleotide is a compound consisting of a nucleoside linked to a phosphate group. And they form the basis structural unit of nucleic acid like DNA and RNA.

A base is nitrogen containing heterocyclic compound which is found in DNA and RNA.

A parent DNA molecule consists of two poly nucleotide chains held together by bonds between complementary nitrogen bases.

There are mainly four nitrogen bases in DNA.

  1. (1) Adenine
  2. (2) Guanine
  3. (3) Cytosine
  4. (4) Thymine

In DNA Adenine always makes a double bond with Thymine (A=T) and cytosine always makes triple bond with guanine (GC)
