Concept explainers
Interpretation:
Defective pyruvate decarboxylase, an enzyme in the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex, is a disorder that occurs in infancy and leads to an elevated level of pyruvate and lactate in the urine and the blood. The inability to convert pyruvate into acetyl CoA and carbon dioxide leads to the lack of energy, weakness and delay in development. Provide the chemical equation for the conversion of pyruvate into Acetyl CoA.
Concept Introduction:
In Glycolysis process, glucose which is a six-carbon molecule is decomposed to form three-carbon molecule, pyruvate. Then pyruvate, can enter various pathways depending upon the condition.
