To review:
The basis of concern of clinicians when the laboratory reports that organisms capable of digesting collagen and fibronectin are present in wound culture.
Introduction:
Collagen is the major structural protein present in the extracellular space in the connective tissue of animals. Collagen is the most dominating and abundant protein present in animals which makes up to 25–35% of the whole body content. It is mostly present in the skin, ligaments, and tendons. Fibronectin is a glycoprotein present in the extracellular matrix and has a high molecular weight. It binds the receptor proteins called integrin. It also binds the extracellular components of the matrix such as fibrin, collagen, and heparin sulfate proteoglycans.
