Concept introduction:
The esters are chemical substances which are derived from an acid (organic or in organic acid) in which at least one of the hydroxyl group (-OH) is replaced by the alkoxy group (-O-alkyl).
The esters are formed as the product in the reaction of an alcohol and an acid. In this reaction in addition to ester, a water molecule is also formed as the by-product.
