Formula used: we know that standard equation of parabola y2=4ax , in this focus is (a,0) .

Calculation: We know that whenever a light ray comes from infinite and after reflection of parabolic mirror light will pass through a focus of parabola. We will use concept to solve this question.

  x=120y2y2=20x

If I compare to standard equation of parabola y2=4ax , we will get

  4a=20a=5

Thus, the receiver is 5 inches far from vertex of the cross-section.
