Summary Introduction
To review:
The induction of pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) link aging, regeneration, and development.
Introduction:
Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) are a type of pluripotent stem cell, which have capability to generate directly from adult cells. In 2006, the experiment based on iPSC technology was conducted by Shinya Yamanaka's lab in Kyoto, Japan, by the introduction of four specific genes encoding transcription factors could convert adult cells into pluripotent stem cells.

Project 2 Muscle Diseases: Muscular Dystrophy1Spunky is a 5-year-old girl who has very large calf muscles and shows severe weakness in her leg and armmuscles. Laboratory tests showed that Spunky has high levels of creatine phosphokinase in her urine. The doctor explained to her parents that Spunky!s muscles are being replaced by fat and connective tissue because her body cells cannot metabolize protein properly. As a result, Spunky!s cells cannot produce creatine from amino acids. Therefore, she cannot store creatine phosphate in her muscles that is necessary to provide energy for her muscles to contract. Help Spunky!s parents understand her disease by completing the following tasks.2. Write the origin and insertion point of each muscle.3. Draw a diagram to show how a muscle fiber uses energy for contraction.

- Assignment Objectives: When given a family’s genetic history, deduce the genotypes for specific family members. •Describe the inheritance and expression of various genetic disorders found in humans. •Determine how genetic screening and counseling can be used to help counsel individuals dealing with lethal genetic disorders in their family. Read through each scenario and answer the following questions: a. Determine the genotypes of all individuals discussed in each scenario in addition to yours, your partners’, and your unborn child. For example, “You remember your partner telling you that their father died at an early age of Huntington’s disease.” In this case you would need to determine your partner’s father’s genotype. b. Determine what probability your unborn child will inherit the disorder (be sure to include a Punnett square)? i. If you are unable to determine your child’s chance of inheriting the disorder what additional information do you require? c.
