Chapter 2.3, Problem 4MC
Summary Introduction

To determine:

In what manner, the density difference between ice and liquid water affects life.

Introduction:

The unusual tendency of water is to expand when it freezes that affect all organisms or life. In liquid water, due to the formation of hydrogen bonds, the water molecules are close with each other, whereas in an ice form, the hydrogen bonds are stable, and the water molecules form hexagonal shapes. Hence, ice floats on the surface of the water.
