Chapter 24, Problem 2CQ
FIGURE Q24.2 shows cross sections of three-dimensional closed surfaces. They have a flat top and bottom surface above and below the plane of the page. However, the electric field is everywhere parallel to the page, so there is no flux through the top or bottom surface. The electric field is uniform over each face of the surface. For each, does the surface enclose a net positive charge, a net negative charge, or no net charge? Explain.

A) A point charge qq is at the point x = 0, y = 0, z = 0. An imaginary hemispherical surface is made by starting with a spherical surface of radius R centered on the point x = 0, y = 0, z = 0 and cutting off the half in the region z<0. The normal to this surface points out of the hemisphere, away from its center. Calculate the electric flux through the hemisphere if q = 2.00 nC and R = 0.100 m.
B) if q = -3.00 nC and R = 0.100 m.
C) if q= -3.00 nC and R = 0.200 m.
