Introduction:

Fibers are composed of complex polysaccharides. For example: cellulose, starch and glycogen. The cellulose is a component of plant cell wall and provides strength and rigidity to the cell. It is called as roughage. It is the undigested food which passes out from the digestive system. The other functions include the efficient digestion and absorption of food in the intestine. It absorbs the harmful chemicals and interferes with the absorption of cholesterol in the body. There are two types of fibers which include the soluble and insoluble fibers.
