Question
Chapter 24, Problem 9WYL
Summary Introduction
To determine:
The main function of the thymus and mechanism by which the blood-thymus barrier supports this function.
Introduction:
The thymus is one of the three main lymphatic organs. It is bilobed and found in the anterior mediastinum. The thymus continuously grows until puberty, when it reaches a maximum weight of 30 to 50 grams. The thymus is composed of two fused thymic lobes; each is covered by a connective tissue capsule. Fibrous extensions of the capsule subdivide the thymic lobes into lobules. Each lobule has an outer cortex and an inner medulla.
