Summary Introduction
The oral cavity provides a variety of microbial habitats. It is because the oral cavity consists of mucous membrane which supports the growth of normal microbiota and prevents the infection by pathogenic microorganisms. These membranes secrete mucin, which retains moisture and inhibits the microbial attachment of pathogens. The invading microbes are swept away by physical processes like swallowing and sneezing.
