Answer to Problem 1CR

Scientists and engineers tried to create a microcosm of the Earth in Biosphere 2 project. It helps people to understand the way in which one can live more sustainably. The major lesson learned from this project is that the nature is very complex and hence, it is not possible to predict or control the changes that occurred in the environment.

Explanation of Solution

Biosphere 2 was designed to mimic the natural chemical recycling systems of the Earth. Water present in ocean and other aquatic systems are evaporated and later condensed to give rainfall over the tropical rainforest areas. The precipitation is seeped into the marshes through soil filters and back into the ocean before the further beginning of the cycle.

The scientific and social science principle of sustainability is the method that can be applied for a more sustainable living.
