What are the reasons why supercharging increases engine power?

Expert Solution & Answer
Check Mark
To determine

Explain the reason why supercharging increases the engine power.

Explanation of Solution

Supercharger:

Supercharger is referred to as an engine-driven air pump that provides a large quantity of air into the intake manifold, thereby boosting the engine power and torque. It provides an immediate boost to engine power with no delay. Since the supercharger is operated by the engine, it needs more horsepower, and therefore it is not more efficient when compared to turbocharger.

Supercharger has the ability to increase the air–fuel charge density. The increase in air–fuel charge density increases the engine power. Thus, supercharging increases the engine power.
