Chapter 25, Problem 5SQ
Summary Introduction
To explain: The reason why consumption of alcohol leads to frequent urination.
Concept introduction: Alcohol consumption is injurious to health beyond the threshold level for the liver to detoxify the alcohol content in the blood. The nephrons in the kidneys reabsorb the water in order to maintain water homeostasis. Anti-diuretic hormone (ADH) or vasopressin is released by the pituitary, which promotes production of concentrated urine by regulating the nephrons to conserve the fluids that pass through them. Micturition is the process of voiding or passing urine.
