Concept explainers
Interpretation:
Thecurved arrows and the reaction mechanism are to be classified when carbon dioxide reacts with sodium hydroxide.
Concept Introduction:
When an electron-rich nucleophile reacts with an electron-deficient electrophilic compound, a nucleophilic addition reaction takes place.
An electrophilic addition reaction is a reaction in which a substrate is initially attacked by an electrophile, and the overall result is the addition of one or more relatively simple molecules across a multiple bond.
When, in any reaction, a stronger electrophile (more tendency to gain electron) substitutes or replaces a comparatively weaker electrophile, then the reaction is termed as eletrophilic substitution reaction.
Movement of electrons in the molecule is depicted by curved arrows.
