Summary Introduction

Introduction: Exaptation is a process in which the organism acquires for its function that was not originally adapted or selected through natural selection. The evolutionary trait that is evolved to serve a particular function of an organism, but subsequently the organisms use to perform another function is termed as the exaptation. Discuss the idea that every evolutionary adaptation has both advantages and disadvantages, using each of the following as an example: (a) cephalization,(b) the arthropod exoskeleton, and (c) segmentation with specialization.
Create lists of animal phyla that (a) are cephalized, (b) have an incomplete digestive tract, (c) have segmented bodies, and (d) have a coelom.
Pharyngeal slits are which of the following?   Question 24 options:   a)  Openings in the pharynx.  In aquatic chordates they allow for exit of water that enters the mouth.   b)  Elongations of the posterior portion of the body.  Use for locomotion in fish, or balance in some terrestrial vertebrates.   c)  Flexible, rod-shaped structures that grows from mesoderm.  Gives support to an animal in embryonic development of chordates or for entire life depending on the species.   d)  Tissues that produces thyroid type hormones.   e)  Hollow tubes that develops from ectoderm.  Develops into the central nervous system.
