Chapter 25.3, Problem 12BYGO
Summary Introduction
Introduction:
Pepsin is one of the most important digestive enzymes produced in the stomach. The chief cells are abundant in number, so they are named so. These cells secrete pepsinogen and gastric lipase. Hydrochloric acid (HCl) activates pepsin; the predominant function of the pepsin is to breakdown protein (dietary) to peptide chains.

Allosteric regulation
Zymogen activation
Covalent modification
Competitive inhibition
What do you think is the ideal temperature and ph for pepsin? Why?
During the _____ phase of digestion, blood glucose levels drop and our body must depend on stored energy. The sympathetic nervous system directs the pancreas to release glucagon, which causes glycogen to be transformed back into glucose. Glucagon also causes stored fat and glycogen to be released into the bloodstream.
