To determine: The major theme that is evident among the relationship of structure to function, information flow, pathways that transform energy and matter, interactions within biological system, or evolution and how it is related to the statement “The shape of a sperm provides insight into its role as the male gamete”.
Introduction: Sperm or spermatozoon is a reproductive or a male gamete cell produced by reproductive system in males. Morphology of sperm directly affects its function as an agent to carry out the fertilization (fusion of egg and sperm cell) process. Its shape and size really matters how efficient it can perform its role. Sperm has three major parts namely the head, mid-piece, and its tail. All the structures help the sperm to travel from the male reproductive system to female reproductive system for fertilization.
