Chapter 26, Problem 1CHI
Summary Introduction

Fungi are eukaryotic organisms like animals (for example, humans) and plants. Fungi can live on air, soil, water, plants, or animals. Some fungi can grow in the human body and produce infections. Antifungal agents are used to control or treat various fungal infections. These agents can inhibit the synthesis of the cell wall or nucleic acids of fungi, and also act on microtubules. For example, the basidiomycete such as Cryptocuccus neoformans is considered as an important pathogen that causes various diseases to humans and animals. Also, microsporidia are obligatory parasites, mainly infect humans, insects, and fish.
