Chapter 27, Problem 1.1A
Summary Introduction
To describe:
The position of any meninges observed to be related to the sheep brain.
Introduction:
Mammalian and sheep brains have various common features. Human brains cannot be available easily. Therefore, sheep brains are generally observed to understand the structure of a mammalian brain.
Expert Solution & Answer
Explanation of Solution
The sheep have different adaptations from human. Meninges are the outermost layer of the brain and spinal cord. There are three layers of meninges:
- Dura mater: Dura mater is the thick and opaque outer layer
- Arachnoid mater: Arachnoid mater is the weblike and semitransparent middle layer spanning the fissures of the brain.
- Pia mater: Pia mater is the thin, delicate, and innermost layer that attaches to the gyri and sulci of the surface of the brain.
Conclusion
Thus, the three layers of the meninges of the sheep brain are dura mater, arachnoid mater, and pia mater.
