____ mesophyll b. stem structure
____ wood c. a lateral meristem
____ cortex d. photosynthetic parenchyma
____ stoma e. secondary xylem
____ potato f. between epidermal cells
____ cotyledon g. only one in monocot seeds

Summary Introduction

To match: The plant parts with the best description.

Explanation

Vascular cambium: c. a lateral meristem

The secondary growth of the plant tissues that arises at cylinders of the lateral meristem that run lengthwise through older stem and roots. Vascular cambium and cork cambium are the two lateral meristems. The vascular cambium produces the secondary xylem that is the wood on its inner surface and secondary phloem on its outer surface.

Mesophyll: d. photosynthetic parenchyma

Mesophyll is the combination of the palisade and spongy parenchyma. It is the inner tissue of the leaf that consists of large number of chloroplasts that are essential for the process of photosynthesis. So, mesophylls are also known as photosynthetic parenchyma.

Wood: e. secondary xylem

The secondary xylem consists of two elements that differ in the orientation in the longitudinal axis of plant. The continuous division of the cambium provides the secondary thickening of woody plants. Wood is the whole of the secondary xylem produced by the cambium during the life of the tree and it will accumulate till the death of the plant.

Cortex: a. ground tissue

Cortex is the outermost layer of the stem or root of a plant...
