Question
Chapter 27, Problem 5RQ
Summary Introduction
Older adults and diseased patients are at major risk of falls. Falls may lead to minor to major injuries, including hip fracture, bruises, and head trauma, and these may result in premature death. Aging, history of falling, decreased vision, lower-extremity weakness, orthostatic hypotension, urinary incontinence, gait and balance problems, inappropriate utilization of walking aids, and adverse effects of drugs may result in a risk of falls. Fall-reduction program, fall risk assessment, and getting help from family members or caregivers may reduce the patient’s risk of falling.
