Chapter 27, Problem 7WYL
Summary Introduction
To determine:
The structures through which water would pass from the renal artery to the capsular space.
Introduction:
The primary function of the kidneys is to filter the blood. The blood is carried to the kidney in a renal artery. It generally arises and extends from the lateral region of the descending abdominal aorta. Bowman’s capsule is a tubular component of a nephron in the kidney. The capsular space is one of the layers present inside the capsule.

What is the artery responsible for supplying the kidneys with oxygen-rich blood and blood that needs to be filtered by the glomeruli in the renal cortex?
This vessel (black arrow) is found
Choose from the following:
(A) in the medullary rays
(B) within the renal columns
(C) at the junction of the renal pyramids and the renal cortex
(D) within the renal cortex
(E) within the sinus of the kidney
Pressure in the renal artery is 100 mm Hg and the pressure in the renal vein is 50 mm Hg. The resistance of the afferent arteriole equals 0.5 mm Hg•min/L and the resistance of the efferent arteriole equals 0.5 mm Hg•min/L. What is the pressure in the glomerulus?
