Chapter 27.1, Problem 5AYLO
Summary Introduction
To discuss:
The male determining gene on the Y chromosome; Protein encoded by that gene; Effect of that protein on embryonic development.
Introduction:
The sex chromosomes tend to be two types. X and Y chromosome. The Y chromosome is a male sex determining chromosome and it is usually smaller in size. The X chromosome is female sex determining chromosome and it is larger than the Y chromosome. During fertilization process the X sperm fuses with egg to give rise to a XX chromosome, which develop into the female individual from the resulting zygote. If Y sperm fuses with the egg, then it will be an XY pattern which gives rise to male individual development from the zygote.
