Concept explainers
(a)
Interpretation:
To explain at which step of glycolysis pathway does NAD+ participate (see Figures 28-3 and 28-4).
Concept Introduction:
Glycolysis is a glucose
(b)
Interpretation:
To explain at which step does NADH + H+ participate.
Concept Introduction:
Glycolysis is a glucose metabolizing pathway that takes place with or without the presence of oxygen. In aerobic two molecules of pyruvic acid is produced with a net gain of 1 ATP molecules. Under anaerobic conditions lactic acid is produced with no ATP.
(c)
Interpretation:
To explain as a result of the overall pathway, is there a net increase of NAD+, of NADH + H+, or of neither.

Introduction to General, Organic and Biochemistry
- In glycerol metabolism, the oxidation of sn-glycerol 3-phosphate to give dihydroxyacetone phosphate is catalyzed by sn-glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, with NAD+ as cofactor. The reaction is stereospecific, occurring exclusively on the Re face of the nicotinamide ring.arrow_forwardThe aconitase-catalyzed addition of water to cis-aconitate in the citric acid cycle occurs with the following stereochemistry. Does the addition of the OH group occur on the Re or Si face of the substrate? What about the addition of the H? Do the H and OH groups add from the same side of the double bond or from opposite sides?arrow_forwardDraw the reaction then identify the reaction mechanism that took place, SN1, SN2 and etc. Metabolic pathway: Conversion of Pyruvate to Acetyl CoA Citric acid cycle Gluconeogensis pathway (pyruvate to glucose)arrow_forward
