Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The equation for the reaction that is catalyzed by acetylcholinesterase has to be given.
Concept Introduction:
Neurotransmitters: Neurotransmitters are chemicals that transmit messages from the nervous system to the target cell. They are the chemical messagers where the electrical signal from the nervous system is travelled from one neuron to another to reach the target cell.
Acetylcholine is type of neurotransmitter which is responsible for controlling skeletal muscles.
Presynaptic neurons produces the neurotransmitter acetylcholine which are stored in the small pockets of presynaptic neurons called vesicles from where the neurotransmitters are released according to the need. After neurotransmitter completes its job, it is immediately removed from the cleft of synapse by the decomposition of acetylcholine which is catalyzed by the enzyme, acetylcholinesterase which is present in the synaptic cleft.
