Chapter 29, Problem 18TYR
Summary Introduction
Introduction:
The major cause of genetic disorder is mutations (changes in DNA structure). Mutations cause microcephaly, childhood cancer, achondroplastic dwarfism, and stillbirth. During the cell cycle, errors may occur in the replication of DNA. The environmental agents (viruses, radiations, and chemicals) that influence these errors are called mutagens. During meiosis, a pair of chromosomes that fails to separate is called non-disjunction. This leads to several genetic disorders. For example, aneuploidy refers to the presence (extra) or absence (less) of one chromosome.
