Chapter 29, Problem 4AQ
Summary Introduction
The human immunodeficiency virus is abbreviated as HIV. The HIV belongs to the family of the retrovirus. It is of two types, namely, HIV-1 and HIV-2. About 99% of HIV-1 is found to be the causative agent of AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) globally. AIDS is a dreadful and fatal disease, as the immune system in the infected individual is depleted by this virus; the opportunistic pathogens eventually kill the host. There is no effective treatment or cure or vaccine for the HIV infection.
