Review. The biggest stuffed animal in the world is a snake 420 m long, constructed by Norwegian children. Suppose the snake is laid out in a park as shown in Figure P3.39, forming two straight sides of a 105° angle, with one side 240 m long. Olaf and Inge run a race they invent. Inge runs directly from the tail of the snake to its head, and Olaf starts from the same place at the same moment but runs along the snake. (a) If both children run steadily at 12.0 km/h. Inge reaches the head of the snake how much earlier than Olaf? (b) If Inge runs the race again at a constant speed of 12.0 km/h. at what constant speed must Olaf run to reach the end of the snake at the same time as Inge?

- A commuter airplane starts from an airport and takes the route shown in Figure P3.19. The plane first flies to city A, located 175 km away in a direction 30.0° north of east. Next, it flies for 150 km 20.0° west of north, to city B. Finally, the plane flies 190 km due west, to city C. Find the location of city C relative to the location of the starting point.arrow_forwardA commuter airplane starts from an airport and takes the route shown in Figure P3. 19. The plane first flies to city A, located 175 km away in a direction 30.0° north of east. Next, it flies for 150 km 20.0° west of north, to city B. Finally, the plane flies 190 km due west, to city C. Find the location of city C relative to the location of the starting point.arrow_forwardUse the component method to add the vectors A and B shown in Figure P3.9. Both vectors have mag- nitudes of 3.00 m and vector A makes an angle of 0 = 30.0° with the x axis. Express the resultant Á + B in unit-vector notation.arrow_forward
- While exploring a cave, a spelunker starts at the entrance and moves the following distances in a hori- zontal plane. She goes 75.0 m north, 250 m east, 125 m at an angle u 5 30.0° north of east, and 150 m south. Find her resultant displacement from the cave entrance. Figure P3.21 suggests the situation but is not drawn to scale.arrow_forwardIn the Death Valley, Nevada, a long stretch of straight road is inclined down about 2.5° with respect to the horizon. What is the change in altitude, if one drives 45 km along the road?arrow_forwardH4.arrow_forward
- You buy a plastic dart gun, and being a clever physics student you decide to do a quick calculation to find its maximum horizontal range. You shoot the gun straight up, and it takes 5.0s for the dart to land back at the barrel. What is the maximum horizontal range of your gun? Express answer using two significant figures.arrow_forwardt path A in the figure. A city block is asquare of l = 105 m on each side. What is the total distance traveled on path A in meters? What is the magnitude of the displacement in meters? What is the angle of displacement, in degrees, measured east of north?arrow_forwardAt the equator, the radius of the Earth is approximately 6370km. A jet flies at a very low altitude at a constant speed of v=237m/s. Upon landing, the jet can produce an average deceleration of magnitude a=21.5m/s^2. A. How long, in seconds, will it take the jet to circle the Earth at the equator? B. What is the minimum landing distance, in meters, this jet needs to come to rest? Assume that, when the jet initially touches the ground, it is moving at the same speed as it was when it was flying.arrow_forward
- A rock is launched off a cliff at a speed of 17.2 m/s at an angle of 35.0 degrees above the horizontal. The height of the cliff is 13.0 m. How far horizontally from the edge of the cliff does the rock land? In your solution sketch the x-t, y-t, Vx-t, Vy-t, Ax-t, and Ay-t diagrams.arrow_forwardDr. B takes her dog ada on a walk. they start out heading south for 0.75 miles. then they turn left 30 degrees and they continue to walk for another 11 mile. Finally they turn right 9o degrees and they walk 1.9 miles. The whole walk takes 45 minutes. What is the average speed of Dr.B and Ada on their walk? give your answer in m/s. What is the direction of the total displacement vector?arrow_forwardTwo spheres are launched horizontally from a 1.2 mm -high table. Sphere AA is launched with an initial speed of 4.5 m/sm/s . Sphere BB is launched with an initial speed of 2.5 m/sm/s . A. What is the distance that sphere AA travels from the edge of the table? Express your answer using two significant figures. B. What is the distance that sphere BB travels from the edge of the table? Express your answer using two significant figures.arrow_forward
